DO YOU WANT TO GAIN MORE SKILLS IN ART
HAVE MORE SPACES TO MAKE ART?
CONNECT WITH OTHER QUEER YOUTH UNDER 29?
FLAME is a
series of FREE ART programs for LGBTQ2S* Spectrum youth under
29, that is rooted in self-care and community building. FLAME is
art programming linked to our stories, our
healing and our resilience.
There is an agreed understanding on taking part
in the program that we are working towards creating safer spaces
and artistic support as we build healthy, interactive and
respectful relationships with others and ourselves.
There will be a total of 5
different Art programs to choose from, running from
January 25th - May 28th 2014.
Each program will run once a week for 2 hours for
a period of 6 weeks. At the end of the 6 weeks, participants
will be able to organize a collaborative event that will show
and highlight their work and artistic skills.
There is only room for 15 participants/program,
and individuals are expected to show up to 80% of the workshops.
ACCESSIBILTY: All the workshops will take place
in physically accessible locations. ASL will be provided for 3
of the 5 programs and will be dependent on interest.

1: COMICS FOR THE PEOPLE
With Kwentong Bayan: Labour of Love
Kwentong Bayan: Labour of Love is a community
based comic book project, created by Toronto-based artists
Althea Balmes (Illustrator) and Jo SiMalaya Alcampo (Writer).
Their workshop will use comic books as a way to highlight the
realities or our various experiences, of community and
friendship, love and struggle, and individuals empowerment. You
will gain skills and knowledge in the various ways to develop
and create comics and the stories within them. These are the
stories that rarely make mainstream media or academic research.
With Rosina Kazi, Nicholas Murray & sonny bean
Join Rosina Kazi & Nicholas Murray from the band
lal, and sonny bean in a group sound making / spoken word
collaborative workshop. We will create and record a musical
background with found sounds and our bodies (hands, mouths,
feet!) as well as a poetry / spoken word / abstract word piece
and each participant will get a mp3 of the work created. This
will be a collaborative process and an introduction to recording
and sound creation. This is open to all, with experience or
without any experience at all.
